Orpha Mae Benefiel Brooks, 89, of Anderson, passed away, November 20, 2017, at Community Hospital after a brief illness. Orpha was born February 9, 1928, in Anderson, the daughter of the late Harry and Sarah (Bronnenburg) Benefiel. She was a graduate of Anderson High School and a lifelong Anderson resident. Orpha was a devoted mother who dedicated her life to her family, working tirelessly to provide a loving home for her children. Her door was always open to the kids near their home on Third Street. She is survived by her children, Glen (Peggy) Hall, Doug (Karen) Brooks, Debbie Wohlberg, and Diana (Steve) Priser; grandchildren, Phillip (Elisha) Hall, Glenda (Daniel) Hall Stewart-Smythe, J. D. (Christina) Brooks, Daniel Wohlberg, Kent (Kim) Wohlberg, Bradley Priser, great grandchildren, Tristen Brooks, Ella Brooks, Abigail, Elise, and Ayden Stewart-Smythe; sister, Mary Newland; brother, Artie (Ruth) Benefiel; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Sarah Benefiel, her brothers, Earl Benefiel and Forrest Benefiel; and a son-in-law, Tom Wohlberg. The family is grateful for the care Orpha received while a resident at Vermillion Place and also in her final days at Anderson Community Hospital. She was blessed with loving home health aids, Marilyn Richards, Stacie Cabrera and Jaimica Snyder. A memorial service is being planned for a later date.
