Opal Mae Matthews

Opal Mae (Presser) Matthews, 96, of Anderson, passed away at her residence on December 7, 2019. She was born on August 12, 1923 in Lapel to the late Charles and Maude (Morris) Presser. She graduated from Anderson High School and was employed at Delco Remy and Ruth’s Fabric. She was a member of Whetstone Christian Church and the Eastern Star. Opal enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading, watching her boys play sports and watching the Pacers and Colts. She is survived by her sons, Tom Matthews of Anderson, Jerry Matthews of Indianapolis; daughter-in-law, Tudy Matthews of Anderson; grandchildren, Ashley (Michael) Pepelea and Allyson (Laurie Seall) Matthews; great-grandchildren, Olivia Pepelea and Sophia Pepelea. Opal was preceded in death by her husband, John “Jack” Matthews; son, Larry Matthews; grandchildren, Zachary Matthews, Jocelyn Matthews; and sister, Mardelle Babb. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, IN 46013 with Pastor Steve Gettinger and Pastor Don Billey officiating. Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and/or American Diabetes Association.
