Odetta Rosaline McFarland, 85, died on September 18, 2015, peacefully at her home surrounded by her family, from complications of colon cancer and heart problems.
She was born January 8, 1930, in Terre Haute to the late Harold & Bessie (Smith) Walden. Odetta was a member of Main Street Church of God. She worked at Village Pantry for several years.
She enjoyed bowling, crafting, sewing, playing Bingo, and loved the casino. She was a member of several card clubs. She taught country line dancing at Excel and the Eagles #1771 in Alexandria. She sponsored the Young At Heart Dance, DJ’d by Buddy Patterson and had volunteered for events at the Paramount Theater. Odetta had contributed to Special Olympics by volunteering for the Taste of Madison County.
She is survived by her daughters, Janice Nicholson & Brenda (Ron) Scott; four grandchildren, Tom (Alicia) Alberts, Neal (Brandi) Alberts, Rusty (Kris) Alberts, & Ashlee (Bryce) Burks; two step grandchildren, Jason (Jay Kirk) Scott & Brent (Krista) Scott; great grandchildren, Logan & Landon Alberts, Katie & Kassie Alberts, Makaylea, Keanna & Jayce Alberts, & Gage Burks; step great grandchildren, Kendall & Grayson Scott, Averi & Ella Faust; several nieces & nephews; and many special friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Thomas “Mac” McFarland; sister, Alberta (Kenny) Pierce; brother, Frank (Nancy) Walden; son-in-law, Larry Nicholson; brother-in-law, Gerald (Wanda) McFarland; and nephews, Danny Walden & Gary McFarland.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, with Pastor Dan Billey officiating.
Friends may call from Noon until time of services at the funeral home.
She will be lovingly remembered as everyone’s, “Grandma-O”.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Main St. Church of God, 4211 Main Street, Anderson, IN 46013.
