Dr. Nilah Meier-Youngman

November 28, 1933 — August 31, 2018

Dr. Nilah Meier-Youngman, 84, passed away August 31, 2018 surrounded by her loved ones at Community Northview Care Center in Anderson, IN. She was born November 28, 1933, in Billings, Montana to the late David & Lillian (Aumann) Meier. Being the daughter of missionaries, she led a lifelong journey into theological and world studies. Her early life was spent in South America and shaped her ideals. Nilah graduated from Anderson University in 1958. She went on to receive a Master of Arts from Duke University, a Master of Divinity from Christian Theological Seminary, and finally a Doctor of Ministry from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Her post graduate studies took her to Illinois, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Spain. While she was Director of Hispanic Ministries Church Extensions & Home Missions, she coordinated local, state, and national efforts to establish 22 Hispanic churches in a twelve-year period. She is survived by daughters, Rebekah Youngman & Taresah Youngman; grandchildren, Cyrus Youngman, Elias Youngman Mitchell & Julius Youngman Mitchell; sisters, Erin (husband, Lance) Tatum & Tabitha (husband, Martin) Kurrle; sister-in-law & dear caretaker, Charlene Meier; and nieces & nephews, David T. Meier, Nicole & Kelvin Tatum, Norberto, Priscilla, Nila, & Marcos Kurrle. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Robert Youngman; siblings, Paul, Timothy, & Susanna Meier. Memorial services will be at 1:30 Saturday, September 29, at Adam Miller Chapel at Anderson University (SOT). Arrangements were entrusted to Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory.
