Nellie E. Watson, 96, Anderson, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on May 2, 2015 at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital.
She was born September 27, 1918, in Anderson, the daughter of the late Harry M & Hazel Dell (McCord) Cook. She was a 1936 graduate of Anderson High School and 1957 graduate of Ball State Teacher College. She retired from Anderson Community School after many years of teaching Kindergarten and 3rd grade at Forrest Hills and Washington Schools. Nellie was a member of Central Christian Church and very active in many organizations including Order of Eastern Star Chapter #154 and Elk’s Lodge.
She is survived by her two daughters, Diana Johnson and Sharolyn Barnett both of Anderson; three grandchildren, Greg (Claudia) Johnson of Anderson, Tim Johnson of Anderson and Angela DeHaven of Noblesville; six great grandchildren,. Kelsey (Stephen) Conrad, Lindsey DeHaven, Tristan DeHaven, Eli DeHaven, Jessica (Ryan) Pepmeier and Emily Johnson; three great great grandchildren, Blakely, Sawyer and Owen; nephews and nieces, Dan (Patty) Johnson, Dennis (Susan) Johnson, Connie Hopp and LeAnn (Dan) Key.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Charles O. Watson and Martha Johnson.
A special thanks to the nurses and staff on the 6th floor at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital. Jehovah saw you getting tired and cure was not to be. So he put his arms around you and whispered, “Come to Me”. A Golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands now rest. It broke our hearts but He only takes the best. (Author/source unknown)
Services will be at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service with the O.E.S Star Memorial Service followed by a Celebration of Life Service with Pastor Rick Vale officiating. Burial will be at Anderson Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
