Nancy Mary Wynant

Pendleton

Nancy Mary (Reighard) Wynant passed to the high and happy hope of heaven November 19, 2024 at her residence. She was the daughter of Sharon and Mary W. (Sisk) Reighard of Pendleton.

Mrs. Wynant attended Pendleton schools from the sixth grade through Pendleton High School graduation in 1947. She attended Indiana University from 1947 – 1949, and married the love of her life Robert Wynant on October 1, 1949. After the birth of their three daughters, she enrolled at Ball State University in 1957, graduating with her B.S. in Business Education in 1958. She taught at Highland High School for one year, and then came to Pendleton High School, retiring in 1990 from Pendleton Heights. Meanwhile she had added a Master’s degree and Vocational certificate.

She was honored at PHHS graduation in 1990 by receiving the Indiana “Sagamore of the Wabash” award. In the community, she served a number of years on the Board of the Pendleton Community Library and then for several more years on the Board of the Pendleton Historical Museum. She joined the Pendleton Methodist Church in April, 1943, and over the years served the Church in many capacities. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ.

She was a member of the Saturday Club of Pendleton, the Starry Night Book Club, and formerly a bridge club. She also attended the Women of the Word Bible Study Group, and was a mentor for Kids Hope.

Mrs. Wynant was preceded in death by her parents and by her soul-mate husband, Robert, who passed away on August 1, 2012. A young brother, David Reighard, died in 1943; his twin brother Donald Reighard passed in 2017; and a daughter, Mary Catherine Ackerman went to heaven in 2022.

She is survived by dear daughters Diana and husband Don Garner of Elwood, Rachel and husband David Wilcox of Pendleton, and son-in-law Michael Ackerman of Spencer. Also surviving are seven precious grandchildren Merrilee and husband Matthew Lee, John and wife Leah Garner, Matt Ackerman, Adam Ackerman, Daniel and wife Megan Wilcox, Joseph Wilcox and fiancé Sara Frey, and Emily and husband Luke Walters. In addition there are seven blessed great grandchildren Daniel Russell, Anna Marie and Luke Edward Garner, Rachel Mary-Elizabeth Lee, Aiden Alexander Wilcox and twins Alice Dellalee and Eleanor Rachel Walters.

She is also survived by sister-in-law, Ann Reighard, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place Sunday, November 24, 2024 from 1:00pm-4:00pm at Bozell Funeral Homes, Lahm Chapel, 211 East State Street, Pendleton, Indiana, 46064.

A funeral service will be Monday, November 25, 2024 at 2:00pm with an hour of visitation prior at Pendleton’s First United Methodist Church, 225 West State Street, Pendleton, Indiana, 46064. Burial at Grovelawn Cemetery following the service.

In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Wynant has requested memorials might be made to Pendleton First United Methodist Church, The American Cancer Society, or the Arbor Day Foundation.
