Ms. Phyllis Downham

Phyllis (Day) Downham, 87, of Anderson, passed away on April 18, 2022 in Anderson. She was born on June 21, 1934 to Paul C. and Margaret (Foland) Day. She married Claude Downham on April 12, 1958 and were married just 3 months short of 50 years before his passing in 2008. She graduated from Anderson High School, the class of 1952. Phyllis found her spiritual home at First Church of the Nazarene and was a faithful member for many years. She was also a member of the VFWA and VFW National Home for Children. Phyllis was a volunteer for the VA Hospital in Marion and the Red Cross. She enjoyed bowling, horseshoe pitching, reading, doing puzzles, bingo, and playing Euchre with her ladies group.
Phyllis will be dearly missed by her brother, Michael (Kay) Day; her stepdaughter, Becky (John) Moriarity; her step-granddaughter, Angela Simison; her step-great-grandchildren, Jessica and Holden Simison; her step-great-great-grandchildren, Landon and Lincoln Fansler; her step-sister, Karen (Richard) Towner; her sister-in-law, Helen Downham; her brother-in-law, Jerry Faucett; her special friend, Deloris Pride; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude; her father, Paul C. Day; her mother, Margaret Day-Hartley; her step-father, Gerald Hartley; her grandson, Adam Dean Hilligoss; her brothers, Corwin R. Day and Edwin A. (Henrietta) Day; her special friends, Wayne Tomlinson and Esther Lawson; and her beloved dog, Muffin.
The visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2022 at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, 46013. The service will begin at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mechanicsburg Cemetery. All memorial donations in Phyllis’ name may be gifted to the Anderson First Church of the Nazarene or the Humane Society.
