Mrs. Freda I. Summitt

Freda Ilene Summitt, 92, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 23, 2022. She passed at her residence surrounded by family.

Freda was born December 17, 1929 in Wayne County, Illinois. She was the daughter of
Harrison Smothers and Minnie (Harl) Smothers. She spent her adult life in Anderson, IN where she married Howard (Bud) Summitt on December 31, 1946. They celebrated 75 years of marriage on December 31, 2021.

The couple has two daughters, Connie Mart of Lafayette, IN and Vicki Adams of Pendleton, IN. They were blessed with four grandchildren, Amanda Jones (husband Brian) of Goodyear, AZ, David Mart (Jennifer) of Iowa City, IA, Michael Mart (wife Alicia) of Lafayette, IN and Emily Adams of Indianapolis, IN. Great grandchildren include; Colin Mart of Iowa City, IA, Johnathan, Dominic and Cecilia Collison of Lafayette, IN.

Freda was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Owen, Earl and Arthur Smothers as well as three sisters; Hazel Stanley, Elsie Sutherland and Helen (Ruth) Harris. She is survived by one sister, Iva Taylor (husband Bill).

Freda found joy in her immediate and extended family including sisters, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews through family dinners, picnics and weekly card games.

Freda was employed for 30 years by Dietzen’s (Holsum) Bakery which is where she met her husband. She was also employed by Trinidad Roofing and Worrell Petroleum before retiring in 2001.

Visitation with Freda’s family will take place on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Brown Butz Diedring Funeral Home, 515 E. 53rd Street, Anderson, IN. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Brown Butz Diedring Funeral Home on Thursday, April 28, 2022. Burial at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery will follow the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers donations to the American Cancer Society or Huntington’s Disease Society of America would be appreciated.

The family is leaving the decision to wear masks up to the guests.
