John Thomas Bahler, 72, of Anderson, passed away on March 15, 2022, at his residence. John was born on July 25, 1949, in Anderson to the late John and Rebecca “Betty” (Lyons) Bahler, Jr.
John served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard. He sold cars for many years and thrived in work where he could provide service to others. His true passion was teaching, and he renewed his teaching license after retiring from sales. He also worked as a substitute teacher and tutor to high school students. John loved literature and was a talented song writer. He enjoyed history, playing guitar, golf, martial arts and genealogy. He had a special love for dogs.
He is survived by his daughters, Gwyne (fiancé, Aaron Ransdell) Bahler of Indianapolis, Shannon (Brett McLaughlin) Bahler of Indianapolis; his previous wife and friend, Diane Bahler of Lafayette; grandson, Gregory McLaughlin; siblings, Michael (Debra) Bahler, Barb (Eric) Vonderohe; nieces, Dr. Caitlin Vonderohe, Dr. Madalyn Vonderohe, Grace (Graham)McDowell, and Lucy (fiancé, Blake Phelps) Bahler.
John was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Timothy Bahler; uncles, Thomas Bahler, Robert Bahler; several aunts, uncles, and cousins on the Lyons side of the family; and his beloved dog, Puppingston.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 18, 2022, at 2:00 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1115 Pearl St., Anderson, IN 46016 with burial of cremains at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the church.
