Meaghan Janice Lanane, age 26, Indianapolis, Indiana, died surrounded by her beloved family at Community Hospital in Anderson, Indiana, on August 31, 2016. She was born at that same hospital on October 12, 1989. Meg attended St. Mary’s Grade School, Highland High School, and majored in political science and gender studies at Indiana University in Bloomington. Meg was a swimmer from age 5, swimming for the Anderson Country Club, ACAC, Edgewood Country Club, and Highland High School swim teams. She was also past president of the Madison County Young Democrats and worked on several Democratic political campaigns beginning with the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign in 2008, an experience that truly inspired her. She travelled to New Hampshire to work on the Jean Shaheen U.S. Senate campaign in 2010. Meaghan also worked on Congressional races and, more recently, served as field coordinator for both the Hogsett for Mayor as well as the 2016 Hillary for Indiana campaigns. She currently served as a regional field organizer for Gregg for Indiana, with responsibility for the East Central Indiana region. Meg was a fierce believer in social justice and equal rights. She worked in 2015 and 2016 for Freedom Indiana. As someone who loved being with her family, Meaghan could always be counted on to organize the annual family St. Patrick’s Day party. She loved music and was also an avid fan of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Meg’s great smile, quick wit and infectious laugh brightened any room. She was a warm, loving, caring and compassionate person with a great heart. She cherished and was cherished by her family and friends. Meaghan is survived by her fiancé, Joshua Denton, Indianapolis; mother and father, Tim and Cindy Lanane, Anderson; her two sisters, Angelique Merritt (Mark); Katherine Crawford (Roark), and special nieces, cousins, aunts and uncles, and her two dogs, Bowser and Luna. She also leaves behind many special friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Williams officiating. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory with a Time of Celebration at 5:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Freedom Indiana, PO Box 2607, Indianapolis, IN 46206.
