Max Gene Lees

Max Gene Lees, age 85 , passed away on November 3, 2020, after a long, hard battle with Parkinsons Disease. Max was born on February 22, 1935, to John E. Lees and Theodocia (Nightenhelser) Lees in Noblesville, Indiana. He graduated from Noblesville High School in 1953. He lettered in two sports; and was President of his class the Student Council. He was a member of the National Honor Society and was awarded a scholarship upon graduation.He graduated from Purdue University as a mechanical engineer in 1957; was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity; and R. O. T. C. He also earned an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh by attending night classes.Max married Martha Jane "Marty" Hersberger on June 16, 1957. They had four children who survive him: Minda J. Lees (C. Stanley Ellington) Mount Kisco, New York, Mark G. Lees, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Melanie J. Lees, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Melissa J. Lees (Kevin Stowe), Moab, Utah.Marty passed away in 2006 on their 49th wedding anniversary. After his wifes death, Max moved back to Noblesville and married Marilyn (Kemp) Horine who survives him.Following graduation from Purdue, Max was employed at General Motors Engineering Plastics Division. Shortly thereafter, he was called to serve his country. He was sent to Germany and stationed at Haun Air Force Base. He was the only non-flying officer in his unit and served as both Intelligence Officer and Supply Officer.After being discharged from the Air Force, he returned to work at General Motors and then took a job in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with a division of Fesco Corporation as plant manager, later moving up to president of Fesco Division of Gulf Oil. After the sale of Fesco, he went to work for Max Kline City Service in Chicago, Illinois as vice president in charge of sales. He later started his own plastics company, USA Plastics.Max was always involved with his childrens activities. He taught all his children to ski and spent many weekends on ski trips with them. He also coached their softball and basketball teams.He really loved sports of any kind. He played on over 60 softball teams for several years and enjoyed playing tennis. He played on a team for men over 60 for several years. He was passionate about watching the Steelers and (second choice) Colts play football. He also loved ice cream, milk shakes, and pecan pie.While living in Pittsburgh, he was a member of the Hiland Presbyterian Church. Upon his return, he joined the First Christian Church and until recently, missed very few Sundays.Max is survived by his wife; his four children; and three grandchildren, Alexandra Crawford (David), Eric Lees, and Julia Puckett; three great-grandchildren, Ashton Lees, Bryce Lees, and Cora Crawford; two step-daughters, Lisa Floyd and Lori Garcia (Art); six step-grandchildren, Allison Griffey (Dan), Jon Horine (Jayna), Paige Bukouericz (Neil), Riley Floyd, Mason Horine (Hayley), Sydney Hickman (Trevor); two step-great-grandchildren, Isabella Griffey and Tilly Bukouericz.Max was preceded in death by two half-sisters, Professor Helen Lees, and Esther Lees Hensley; one half-brother, Neil Lees; daughter-in-law, Lisa Lees; stepson Jeff Horine; and step-son-in-law, Doug Floyd.Max was a very patient, loving, quiet man, a wonderful husband, father, and friend. He will be greatly missed.A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, November 13, 2020, at 1:00 pm in the First Christian Church, 16377 Herriman Boulevard, Noblesville, Indiana.
Visitation will be held on Friday at the church from 11:00am to 1:00pm
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Christian Church.Masks are required and social distancing will be maintained.Hersberger Bozell Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana is handling the arrangements.
