Mary “Martha” Boyer, 92, lifelong resident of Madison County, passed away Monday, February 8, at St. Vincent’s Anderson Regional Hospital.
She was born December 1, 1923, in Pendleton to the late, James Guernsey & Sarah Marie (Jarvis) Smethers.
Martha was a homemaker and had been a beautician who had her own salon in her home. She was a member of St. Anne’s Anglican Church and former member of Trinity Episcopal Church. Martha was well known for her cooking and making pies. She used her artistic talents for many things such as crocheting, sewing, ceramics, and other crafts.
She was a people person but her first love was her family. Martha instilled traditional values and the importance of education and family on three generations of loved ones.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice Chamberlin (husband, James Kleyla); son-in-law, James Phillips; grandchildren, Trent Chamberlin, Kris Pryor, Traci Chamberlin Tetrick, Jill (husband, Randy) Wolverton, Jim (wife, Amy) Phillips, Joy (husband, Bill) Offutt, Jan (husband, Van) Henderson, Joe Phillips, & Jodi (Kenny Steele) Mayhouse; great grandchildren, Alexa (husband, Michael) Lucas, Brady Tibbetts, Breanna Pryor, Maci, Maxwell, & MaryClaire Tetrick, Tyler, Brian, & Kylie Wolverton, Zachary, & Jacob Phillips; Brianna (husband, Jefferson) Kisor, Jodi, Ryleigh, & Kelsey Offutt, Jordan & Jaden Henderson, Kenny Steele, Jr.; and special caretaker, Wanda Stephens; and her many friends at Longfellow Plaza.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Boyer; daughter, Carrol Anne Phillips; and several siblings.
Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 13, at St. Anne’s Anglican Church, at Davis Park, 4507 Nichol Avenue, officiated by Revs. P.T. Morgan & Jonathon Back. Burial will be at Mendon Cemetery, Pendleton.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory.
Visitation will be from noon until service time at St. Anne’s.
