Mary Frances Snelson

Mary Frances Snelson, 90, passed away on March 4, 2019 in Anderson, Indiana. Mary was born April 4, 1928 in Anderson, the daughter of the late Gilbert and Edna (Russell) Niccum. She was a lifelong resident of Anderson. She graduated from Anderson High School in 1946. She married Vircel James Snelson on October 20, 1946. She worked at Delco Remy for 48 years, retiring in 1994. Mary was a member of the UAW-CIO Local #662 and enjoyed travelling with her friends. She traveled throughout the U.S. as well as Australia and the Panama Canal. Mary’s greatest joy was her family. Mary’s husband, Vircel (Jim), died in 1964. Of her seven siblings, she is survived by one sister, Dorothy Johnson, and one brother, Thomas (Linda) Niccum. One sister-in-law, Charlotte Niccum, also survives her. Mary is additionally survived by her three sons, James V. (Peggy) Snelson, Richard E. (Christie) Snelson and Myron W. (Mary Ann) Snelson. She had nine grandchildren, Mark (Gwen) Snelson, Tracie Benson, Melanie Neidhamer, Brian (Amy) Snelson, Cathy (Ken) Bergin, Andrew Snelson, Kimberly (Brian) DePrez, Joseph (Kristen) Snelson, and Timothy Snelson. She had 13 great grandchildren. Mary also had many nieces and nephews. Service will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday and one hour before the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Friends and family may wish to make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.
