Marilyn A. Henderson

February 19, 1930 — August 9, 2021

Marilyn A. Henderson is now rejoicing at home in Heaven with her Lord. Her homecoming occurred August 9, 2021. Marilyn was born February 19, 1930 in Milwaukee, WI, the first of three daughters of the late Emmett and Gladys (Kraemer) Harte. Throughout her life, Marilyn had touched the lives of hundreds of children with her love and teaching career. In 1952 she began teaching 4th grade as a new Wheaton College graduate. Enjoying those students so much, she followed them to teach in 5th grade. While her 3 own children were young, she substituted and tutored. She then returned to her career, teaching kindergarten in Des Plaines, IL until retirement. During this time she was nominated for a National Teacher of the Year Award. Marilyn also touched the lives of many adults, by starting and maintaining a church library with her husband and leading the women’s Bible Study. She also enjoyed traveling on vacations with her family, working in her Friendship Garden and writing articles titled “Teacher’s Pet” for the local weekly newspaper. But of all Marilyn’s achievements and attributes, her strongest one is the legacy of love she gave to her family. In 1951, Marilyn married her husband Walter James Henderson. They were married over 65 years and had three children, Steven, Susan, and David. Walter and Marilyn taught them to love and honor our Savior Jesus Christ and this legacy has been carried forth to their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Marilyn has helped to give her family a Godly heritage. In 1974, Walter lost his vision and Marilyn became his “eyes”, lovingly describing what he could not see, helping him enjoy his life fully until he passed away in 2017. In 2020, Marilyn entered Memory Care at Primrose in Anderson, Indiana. Even with the loss of many recollections and words, Marilyn remained cheerful and loving to all around her. She was a true example of a loving Godly wife, mother, grandma, great grandma, and friend. As her wedding ring stated, “Psalm 34:3, Oh Magnify the Lord with me…” Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Matthew 25:21 She is survived by her sister Jan Harness, her children and their spouses Steve and Janeil Henderson, Bill and Sue Adams, and Dave and Georgi Henderson, grandchildren Kathryn DeYoung (spouse Jeff), Kelsey Crosson (spouse Lenny), Allison Henderson, Katie Adams, Elisabeth Henderson Haas (spouse Jonathan), and Andy Henderson (spouse Kristy). She had also been blessed with great grandchildren: Hudson Crosson, Micah Crosson, Nora Crosson, Henry DeYoung, Caleb Henderson, with 3 more on the way. Preceding her in death were her husband, Walter, parents Emmett and Gladys Harte and her sister Sharon Stretch. Services will be held Monday August 16, 2021 at 11:30 am at Grace Baptist Church, 432 W 300 N, Anderson, IN 46012. Burial will follow in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of the service Monday at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Shiloh Youth Ranch www.shilohyouthranch.org
