Marianne Underwood

July 11, 1924 — May 31, 2024

Marianne Presser Underwood, 99 years old from Pendleton passed away peacefully from natural causes in her residence in Fishers, Indiana on May 31st, 2024-just six weeks shy of her 100th birthday.

Marianne was born into her family on July 11th, 1924.  Her parents, Willis & Grace along with her Sister Betty Mae welcomed her to the family farm in Anderson, Indiana.

Marianne attended Pendleton High School and graduated in the class of 1942.  While she attended PHS, she met the love of her life, John Underwood, Jr.  They married shortly after high school and moved to Oklahoma where he was stationed in the United States Air Force. After returning to Indiana, John and Marianne took over their families’ occupation as farmers along with their two beloved sons Douglas J. (Alfa)and Joseph Kent (Cynthia).

The Underwood Family spent the next seven decades building the legacy that is left behind today. Marianne being the love and strength guiding the way.

Marianne enjoyed her garden, pie making, shopping and cooking for her family holiday feasts.   Her love of black scalding hot coffee and the color pink was legendary among her friends and family.

She and John were founding members of Fall Creek Christian where she served for many years as an elder’s wife and a member of the Ruth Circle.  They traveled the world together visiting the missionaries that they so passionately supported.  Her faith in God was steadfast and unyielding in her 99 years of life.

She was proceeded in death by, her beloved husband John Underwood Jr, her oldest son Douglas, his wife Alfa, her youngest son Jospeh Kent Underwood and sadly great grandson Joseph Cooper Salsberry, her parents Willis and Grace Presser, sister Betty Mae Williams, and nephew Roger Hayden.

She leaves behind what she took the upmost pride in, her grandchildren, great grandchildren and five great- great grand babies.

Doug’s children:

Shelley Underwood – Landers her children Lindsay (Tommy) Ervin Colten (Jackie) Lawyer his son Griffin, Dalton Lane Landers his son Mason and Gracie all of Oklahoma.

Kurt (Rene)Underwood their children Lauren (Brett) Jeschke, Wyatt (Heather) Underwood and their children Felicity Cophine and Benjamin Douglas all of Oklahoma.

Christopher (Whittany) Underwood and son Caleb of Glasgow Kentucky.

Shelly (Alvin) Cave & Family, Shane (Angie) Ashton & Family all of Indiana.

Cynthia Underwood (Kent) their children:

Phillip Kyle (Heather) Underwood.  His children Ross and Leigha Kate Underwood all of Indiana.

Kerrie Beth (John)Underwood-Salsberry, Their children   Isabella, Lily and Conner (Jamee) Salsberry—their son Joseph Declan all of Michigan.

John Craig Underwood, His children Alexander, Brenner, Charlotte and Olivia all of Indiana.

Her niece Beth Ann (Bill) Underwood-Compton also of Indiana.

Visitation from 1 to 3 p.m., Monday, June 10, 2024, with services at 3 p.m. at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Lahm Chapel, 211 E. State St., Pendleton with Tom Wiles officiating. A burial will follow in Friends Cemetery, Pendleton.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fall Creek Christian Church, 1102 W. 700 S., Pendleton, IN 46064.
