Margaret Estella Liechty, 92, passed away January 30, at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital following an extended illness.
She was born March 17, 1923 in Anderson, the daughter of the late Lawrence & Marie Herbst. Margaret graduated from Anderson High School in 1941. She worked as a cashier at the Colonial Theater and was employed by Delco Remy during World War II before becoming a full-time homemaker.
Margaret loved traveling and reading. She was an avid Anderson Indian fan and enjoyed cheering on the Cincinnati Reds, IU Hoosiers, Pacers, and Colts. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 154.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Ballinger of Angola; nephew, Tom Herbst of Fishers; nieces, Jane Ann Leech of Anderson and Lita (Joe) Ingalls of Westfield; great-nieces, Jessica Ingalls, April (Tony) Boles and daughter, Gabby; great-nephew, Nick (Holly) Leech and children, Logan & Kamryn.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Liechty, in 2005; brother, John Herbst in 2003; and sister, Virginia Herbst in 2008.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, with Pastor John Hackney officiating. Burial will be at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Animal Protection League, 613 Dewey Street, Anderson, IN 46016, or Crossroads United Methodist Church, 2000 N. Scatterfield, Anderson, IN 46012.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Bethany Pointe Health Campus for the wonderful, loving care Margaret received during her stay.
