Malcolm Richard Smith, 82, Anderson, passed away Friday, February 14, 2014, at his home. He was born on July 27, 1931, in Anderson, Indiana to Harry and Velma (Stohler) Smith. He graduated from Lapel High School in 1949 and received a masters degree in Agriculture Education from Purdue University and had served in the U. S. Army. Malcolm retired as the beef sales manager from the former Emge meat plant in Anderson after over 30 years of employment. He attended the Ford Street United Methodist Church in Lapel and was a member of the Lapel American Legion Post 212. He is survived by two children Stephen (wife, Barbara) Smith and Loraine Smith both of Anderson; four grandchildren, Jessica (husband, Mike) Tharp of Lapel, Greg (wife, Melissa) Smith, Joshua (wife, Jennifer) Miller; and Kayla Knotts all of Anderson; four great-grandsons, Gabriel and Evan Smith and Jonathan and James Tharp; and one sister, Karen Lumpkin of Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 55 years, Beverly J. (Jones) Smith; and a great-grandson, Joseph "Joey" Tharp. A funeral service will be held at 6:00 pm Sunday, February 16, 2014, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Pastor Steve Holdzkom officiating. Private family burial will be Monday in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday, February 16, 2014, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel.
