PENDLETON- Loving husband, father, and grandfather Malcolm Paul DeVerter, 87, Pendleton went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, August 9, 2022.
Malcolm was born October 17, 1934, in Cayuga, Indiana to Florence and Wilmont DeVerter. He was a graduate of the Indiana College of Mortuary Science and a licensed funeral director and real estate broker. Malcolm had an impressive career working in various funeral homes across the state of Indiana for more than 30 years. His entrepreneurial spirit and strong work ethic also served him well in the real estate industry where he worked for nearly 20 years.
Malcolm married his wife Peggy DeVerter on January 25, 1985. He was the proud father of his three children Kim DeVerter (Duane) McKay, John DeVerter, and Joe (Terri) DeVerter from a previous marriage. Upon marrying Peggy, he gained six stepchildren including Jolene Truman, Lisa England, Randy (Mary-Beth) England, Mike (Nancy) England, Jill Mathews, and Jenny (Rick) Corbin.
Malcolm was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord, his family, church, and community. His love of the beautiful state of Hawaii led him to frequently travel to and live in the state for several years. Malcolm was a man always seeking a new adventure or project to work on, and he loved to reminisce and share stories of his many unique life experiences, such as working in a pineapple factory. Malcolm was known as a loving family man and hardworking businessman with a quick wit, infectious smile, and a kind heart.
Malcolm’s surviving family members include his wife Peggy DeVerter; brother, Robert (Carol) DeVerter; daughter, Kim DeVerter McKay; son Joe (Terri) DeVerter; stepsons Randy (Mary-Beth) England, and Mike (Nancy) England; stepdaughters, Lisa England, Jill Mathews, and Jenny (Rick) Corbin. He is also survived by several of his nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Malcolm is preceded in death by his parents, son John DeVerter, son-in-law Duane McKay, and stepdaughter Jolene Truman.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., Monday, August 15, 2022, at Chesterfield Community Church of God located at 123 Linden Lane, Chesterfield, Indiana with a celebration of life service immediately following at 11 a.m. Pastors Jim Lyon and Jerry Grubbs will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Chesterfield Community Church of God in Malcolm’s honor.
