Luella Ann Smith

Luella Ann Smith, nee Jenkins, passed away peacefully at home, on August 8, 2021. She was predeceased by her mother, Ina Ruth (Lawrence) Jenkins and her father, Carlos WM. Jenkins, both of Anderson; her sister, Kay (Lawrence) Yunger of Kalamazoo, Michigan; her husband, Bob (B.C.) Smith; and her step-son, Brant Smith. Ann earned her Master’s in Education at Ball State University after earning her Bachelor’s in French at Purdue University. Ann taught French at Madison Heights High School where she met Bob, who taught World History. Ann greatly enjoyed advising the yearbook staff for many years. They loved spending summers at their cottage on Lake Barbee and running their business, Waistcoat Antiques. She was a friend to many and worked tirelessly for the Gruenewald House, a lovely Victorian home in downtown Anderson. She donated time and money to their restoration, maintenance, and annual auctions. Ann was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church and most recently attended the Central Christian Church. Ann is survived and will be greatly missed by her dear friends and family, including her sister, Lynn Elizabeth and husband, Wm. Donovan Hughes of White Plains, NY; her nieces and nephews, Dr. John Yunger of Manhattan, IL, Dr. Mark Yunger, of Milton, MA, Ann Heckler of Toledo, OH, Marjorie Hughes of Fleetwood, NY, and Christopher Olson of Denver, CO; her daughter-in-law, Lorrie Haines; her step-son, Jeff (Tatiana) Smith; and her three grandchildren, Hayley and Tanner Smith, and Dennis Borisov. The visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., Friday, August 20, 2021 at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory. The funeral service will then begin at 11 a.m. Burial in East Maplewood Cemetery. Pastor Rick Vale will officiate. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Gruenewald House, the Central Christian Church, or another charity of your choosing. Masks will be required for the visitation and funeral, per the family’s request.
