Louis Eugene Barrett Sr, 93, of Anderson, passed away June 8, 2016 at IUH Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
He was born Oct. 22, 1922, in Jonesboro, the son of the late Ralph and Eva (Leach) Barrett.
As a member of the greatest generation, he was a self-make man working hard to make something of a very difficult situation. He lost his mother at age 7 and lived through the great depression, stayed with various relatives, finally living at Bronnenberg Children’s Home.
He served in the armed forces (Army) during WWII. After the war Louis received his GED from Anderson High School class of 1950. He then graduated from Marion Collage (Indiana Wesleyan University) with a degree in Theology and was a recorded minister in the Religious Society of Friends (Quaker). He also earned his Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Ball State University.
Louis served as pastor at New Holland Friends Church, Walnut Ridge Friends, Pennsville Friends, Arba Friends in Indiana, Ludlow Falls Friends in Ohio, Godard United Methodist of Godard, Kansas, Vermillion Friends in Alexandria, Port Antonio Friends Mission in Jamaica, St. Mary’s Friends in Ohio, and New Salem friends in Greentown. He also taught at several schools, retiring after he taught for twenty years at Alexandria. He enjoyed vacations with his family, eating out with friends and family, building and flying model airplanes and especially golf and more golf.
In 1946 he married his wife of 60 years, Patricia (Smisor) Barrett of Marion and together they raise four children. His survivors included his two sons and daughter, Louis (Lois) Barrett Jr., Carolyn (Malcolm) Reger, Norman (Jo) Barrett; twelve grandchildren; three great grandsons; and a daughter-in-law, Susan Barrett.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Barrett and his son, David Barrett.

Visitation will be 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 12, at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, at the funeral home.
