Leroy D. Tarvin

Leroy D. "Lee" Tarvin, 78, Lapel, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2011, at Countryside Manor in Anderson following a brief illness. He was born on September 2, 1933, in Daviess County, Indiana to Ray and Hazel (Marshall) Tarvin. He graduated from Odon Madison Township High School in 1951 and served in the U. S. Army in England from 1955 to 1958. Lee retired in 1992 from the former Guide Lamp division of General Motors in Anderson after 42 years of employment. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapel; he served as president of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class; he was instrumental in founding the Lapel Community Food Pantry and worked many hours there. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy E. (Humerickhouse) Tarvin; four children, Greg (wife, Sara) Tarvin of Sherman, TX, Jeff (wife, Jeri) Tarvin of Anderson, Chris (wife, Lisa) Tarvin of Lafayette, and Cindy (husband, Mike) Boyce of Indianapolis; eleven grandchildren, Kate (husband, Adam) Winsor, David Tarvin, Josh Tarvin, Doug Osselaer, Tom Osselaer, Beau (wife, Nicci) Tague, Ginny (husband, Dan) Williams, Rachel Tarvin, Crissy Tarvin, Sean Boyce, and Amanda Boyce; one brother, Carl (wife, Freida) Tarvin of Odon; and two sisters, Lucy Eisenmann of Denton, TX, and Sherrill (husband, Bill) Wells of Linton. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Grace Baird. A life celebration service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 15, 2011, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapel with Pastors Doug Barton and Steve Holdzkom officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Odon at a later date. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel. Callers are invited to bring a non-perishable food item for the food pantry to the visitation and service.
