Larry Gene Humphrey

February 23, 1939 — January 17, 2022

Larry Gene Humphrey, 82, of Anderson, went home to be with the Lord on January 17, 2022 from Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Anderson. He was born February 23, 1939 at home in Anderson to Louise Gray Jackson and Roscoe Humphrey. Larry attended United Wesleyan Church in Anderson and was a member of UAW Union Local 663. He was a US Navy veteran. His greatest enjoyment was family. Larry retired from Guide Lamp Division of General Motors as a skilled Electrician and also owned Humphrey Electric from 1970 to 2008, handing over to his sons at that time. He thoroughly enjoyed the electrical trade and especially teaching young kids still in high school work ethics and the basics of electrical work. Several which have become very involved in the electrical trade. He also sponsored a female apprentice and had another girl working in the trade long before it was common practice to do so. Survivors include his wife of 64 ½ years, Sue Anne (Ward) whom he married July 24, 1957 by Dr. Bransford at First Methodist Church in Anderson; four sons, Harold Gene (Amy) Humphrey, James David (Julie) Humphrey, Larry Lee (Bobbie) Humphrey all of Anderson and William Alan Humphrey of Noblesville; six grandchildren, Dustin Marshall, Shannon Gaddis, Kalea Humphrey, Olivia Wood, Teresa Shoemaker and Shawn Hunter; 15 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren and another due any day; siblings, Harold Lee (Jacque) Humphrey of Marion and David R. (Cheryle) Humphrey of Chesterfield; step sister, Cindy Bennett of Anderson; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step father, Herman Jackson; father and mother in law, Luther and Thetis Ward; grandparents, Cecil and Frank Humphrey; step sister, Nancy Pettigrew; and step brother Mick Jackson. The family is thankful for the great care and compassion of the nurses with Ascension and AseraCare Hospice. Services: 12 p.m., Friday at Brown Butz Diedring Funeral Service and Crematory, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson with Pastor Clifton Ashlock officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Grove Lawn Cemetery, Pendleton. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday and 11 to 12 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to United Wesleyan Church, 2233 S. Central Way, Anderson, IN 46011 or Anderson Salvation Army, 1615 Meridian St., Anderson, IN 46016.
