Kenneth H. Ballinger, 79, Anderson, passed away May 13, 2017, at Community Hospital of Anderson. He was born November 11, 1937, in Indianapolis, the son of the late Kenneth E. and Helen (Wolf) Ballinger. He lived in Anderson all of his life and was a graduate of Anderson High School and attended Ball State University and Parsons College. After college Kenny worked with the Episcopal Church Army Mission Group on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota where he established his love for the Native American culture. Kenny at one time was Vice-President of ALAC Garment Services and Stevens Furniture Store. He loved the Anderson Indians, enjoyed attending their basketball and football games and was very active in the Anderson High School Band Parent’s Association. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, the Exchange Club of Anderson and volunteered with Contact Help. Kenny loved his family and church very much, enjoyed traveling, watch western TV shows & movies, all forms of wild life and the changing seasons his last months. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sherry (Shine) Ballinger of Anderson; his son and daughter-in-law, Phil H. and Aimee (Dudley) Ballinger of Anderson; three grandchildren, Andrew, Harrison and Gerald “Jerry” Ballinger; brother, Larry Ballinger of Naples, FL; brother-in-law, Jerry (Penny) Shine of Anderson and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The family would like to thank for help and support through his dementia and cancer struggles, especially: Dr. Ronald Harmening & Staff, Community Home Health Care James Davenport, Theresa, Sherry Whatley, Jennifer, Teresa and Anne Marie for their help, love, support and friendship over the last year in caring for Kenny. To the Anderson Fire Department and EMT’s, Community Hospital Emergency Room Staff and Dr. Brurns and Community Hospital ICU for their compassion and loving care for Kenny in his last hours. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Andrea Lee Ballinger, and his parents. Service will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 11th and Delaware Street, Anderson with Bishop William Smalley officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church or Animal Protections League.
