Kathryn Mae Smethers

Kathryn Mae "Katie" Smethers, 86, Lapel, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at her home following a brief illness.

She was born on August 16, 1930, in Anderson to Carl and Camilla (Seidel) Hudson.

She graduated from Anderson High School in 1948.

She and her husband settled in Lapel and operated Dons Auto Body for over 30 years. After retirement, they became snow birds and enjoyed winters in Ellenton, Florida.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church; she had volunteered as a Katie the Clown, Easter Bunny, and Santa Claus with handicapped children.

She is survived by three sons, David Smethers of Lapel, William (Kim) Smethers of Fairmount, and Steven (Pam) Smethers of Coopersville, MI; eleven grandchildren, Jeffrey White, Brian (Jamie) White, Erik (Rebecca) White, Ryan (Shelly) Smethers, Carlie Smethers, Kolby Smethers; Kelly Smethers, Kaitlyn Smethers, Donnie Smethers, Holly (Randy) Fisher-Burchette, and Erica Denny; several great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Eloise Hunter and Irma (husband, Jack) Hughes.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years, Donald Ralph Smethers; a daughter, Connie White.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Friday, August 26, 2016, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Pastor Dewey Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday, August 25, 2016, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
