Katherine E. Mellenthin, 98, of Anderson, passed away surrounded by her family on August 5, 2023. She was born on September 18, 1924 in Riplinger, WI to the late Theodore and Hilda (Johnson) Hill. Katherine was married to Lloyd Mellenthin for 47 years. Katherine will be dearly missed by her children, Joanne (John) Hadley, Donald Mellenthin (Sandy Kokotilo) and Michael Mellenthin; grandchildren, David Hadley (Darcie) and Lauren Hadley; great-grandchildren, Addison Hadley, Averie Hadley, Austin Springer, and Ashley Springer; brother, Jack (Faun) Hill of Florida; sister, Marlene Quest of Illinois; numerous nieces and nephews; and special neighbors, Gus and LeeAnn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings, Theodore “Teddy” Hill, Mavis McKune, Janet Sizemore, Harvey Hill. and Arlene Rink.
She worked for the Chicago Motor Club for a number of years prior to her marriage to Lloyd. Together they owned and operated Mellenthin Development. Katherine was an active band mother for Madison Heights High School, a dedicated member of Victoria Guild and the Anderson Fine Arts Center. Katherine found her spiritual home at St. John’s Lutheran Church and was an active member for a number of years.
She and Lloyd enjoyed spending winter months at their home in Bonita Beach, Florida. Prior to that she and her husband traveled to many countries.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Clearvista Lake Health Campus and Compassus Hospice.
A visitation will be from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM, Friday, September 15, 2023 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 310 E 53rd St, Anderson, IN 46013. The celebration of life will be at 1:00 PM at the church. Burial will take place in Anderson Memorial Park. Memorial contributions in Katherine’s name may be gifted to St. John Lutheran Church, the Anderson Christian Center, or a charity of your choice.
