Julius Eugene Sylvester

January 17, 1927 — January 28, 2015

Julius Eugene “Gene” Sylvester, 88, of Anderson, passed away January 28, 2015 at Community Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born January 17, 1927, in Anderson to the late J. Chloe and Viola (Baldwin) Sylvester and lived most of his life in Anderson. He graduated from Lapel High School in 1945 and then served in the U.S Army with the 1st Cavalry’s 8th Engineer Squadron during WWII.

Gene was owner and operator of Sylvester Total Comfort & Security from 1952-1996. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapel and the Lapel Masonic Lodge #625.

He is survived by his son, Gary (Laura) Sylvester of Anderson; his daughter, Debra (Gary) Ebert of Pewaukee, WI; four grandchildren, Julia (Charles) Kopsea of Oak Creek, WI., Jennifer (Jeremiah) Salzman of Therese, WI., Corey (Amanda) Sylvester of Noblesville and Kylie (Justin) Kruse of Noblesville; four great grandchildren, Zachary Kopsea, Nathan Kopsea, Brooklynn Salzman and Teagan Salzman; nieces and nephews, Connie (Jim) Millikan, Nancy (Jerry) Pitcock, Brian (Alicia) Bays and Alan (Kelli) Bays; several great nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Justin Bays; also surviving is his faithful companion, his dog Missie.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie L. Sylvester and his brother, Dave Sylvester.

Service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapel with Pastor Doug Barton officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by V.F.W. Post 266 Honor Guard.

Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church.
