Julia L. Cook

ANDERSON- Julia Lee (Wable) Cook, 82, Anderson, after being baptized as a teenager, finished her journey to see the Lord on November 13, 2017. Julia was born December 9, 1934 at St. Johns Hospital in Anderson to the late Charles and Bertie Wable. She grew up in Wilkinson and attended Wilkinson High School graduating in 1953. She worked in various restaurants after high school, including: Goldie’s Coffee Shop, KY’s Smoke Shop, and The Hut. In 1961 she went to work for Public Taxi until 1981 when she went to work for K-Mart Southdale. After the store closed she went to work for St. John’s Health System in the cafeteria for five years retiring in 2006. After retirement, she worked from home for Art to Remember. Julia enjoyed cooking and for several years cooked meals for the election polls on Election Day. She would set up an assembly line of her children to make sure the meals got out on time. She liked to take car rides back to Wilkinson, where she grew up. In 2002 she started going to her high school reunions with her daughter, Becky. She reconnected with several friends. Julia enjoyed sewing and crafts and in the process of making pillows for her children and grandchildren. She was always there to (help) write her children and grandchildrens’ reports for school. She loved all animals. She was very stubborn and always had to have things just how she wanted them. Julia was married to Jack Riley in 1954 until his death in 1965. On May 23, 1967 she married Richard J. Cook and they were married for 38 years until his death on July 8, 2005. She is survived by her five children; Barbara (Raymond) Johnson, Anderson, Patricia Willhoite, Anderson, Debbie (Charlie) Sherrick, Portage, Becky (John Dolenski) York, Anderson, Michael Riley, Daleville; grandchildren, Chad Johnson, Jerod Craig, Tim Jones, Richard Burch, Chelsea (Bobbie Mullins) York, Kayleigh York; step-granddaughters, Kerry Cook, Lynn Guerrero; sister in laws, Joan and Nancy; brother in law, Gene Cook. Also surviving are great granddogs, Baby, Clyde, Forrest, Jax, Duo, C.J., Daisy, Piper, Eve, Bailey, Nike, and Storm the cat. She was preceded in death by her parents; Charles and Bertie Wable, first husband, Jack Riley, second husband, Richard J. Cook; grandchildren; Kelli Johnson, Brandi Riley; stepson: Mark Cook; grandson, David Gray; father and mother in law; Walter and Mary Cook, and aunt Amy Wigner. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, IN 46013. Funeral Service will be on Friday at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with burial at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
