Joseph L. Shetterly

Joseph "Joe" Shetterly, 84, Perkinsville, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2012, at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood following an extended illness. He was born on November 5, 1927, in Cicero, Indiana. He graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1945. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Joe retired in 1990 from the former Delco Remy division of General Motors after 44 years of employment. He was a member of the Perkinsville Community Church where he served as a member of the board of trustees; he also served on the Perkinsville Park Festival Committee in the 1980's and 1990's. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Edith Shetterly; three children, Debra (husband, Dennis) Muse of Perkinsville, Michael (wife, Brenda) Cogill of Elwood, and Frank (wife, Janet) Shetterly of Perkinsville; four grandchildren, Danny Muse, Stacy (husband, Jerry) Barnes, Michael (wife, Wing) Cogill, Jr., and Bradley Cogill; six great-grandchildren, Christopher and Danielle Muse, Phillip Likens, Joshua and Kimberly Barnes, and Michaela Cogill; one great-great grandson, Tucker Likens; also survived by his dearest friend of 70 years, Gene Murray of Frankton. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank Shetterly and Jean Apgar; and one brother, Elmer Shetterly. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at Perkinsville Community Church with Pastor Mark Aleshire officiating. Burial will follow in Neese Cemetery, Frankton. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday, January 23, 2012, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Perkinsville Park Fund, c/o the Perkinsville Community Church, 2783 North Washington Street, Anderson, Indiana 46011.
