Joseph Charles Ambrose, age 91, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully passed away Saturday, August 29. With his absence he will be missed, but sorrow gives way to joy in the knowledge that he will be reunited with Donna, his bride of 67 years, his granddaughter Dana Ambrose, and all the other loving family members and friends, already waiting in the presence of the Lord. Joe was a scratch golfer; an avid fisherman; and an accomplished athlete in his youth. He served our nation during World War II as a Petty Officer Radioman on board ship in the United States Navy. He had many close calls in action during service in the Philippines, including surviving a torpedoed sunken ship. With the grace of God, he was spared to become the man we knew him to be. We rejoice in knowing that he and Donna, along with all the other loved ones, are celebrating their 68th year together in Heaven. We long for them all, but know in due time, we will join in that heavenly celebration. He is survived by one brother, Dr. Charles T. Ambrose of Lexington, KY; two sons Joseph N. (wife, Eileen) Ambrose of Salt Lake City, UT, and Rollie W. (wife, Susan) Ambrose of Capistrano Beach, CA; one daughter, Evelyn J. (husband, Paul) Thobois of Oceanside, CA; and one grandson, Nikolas P. Ambrose. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at Brookside Cemetery in Lapel with Rev. Jerry Snyder officiating followed by military graveside rites conducted by the Lapel American Legion Post 212. Burial will follow. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel.
