Johnie “John” Roberson

October 21, 1945 — November 11, 2022

Johnie “John” Roberson, 77, of Anderson, passed away on November 11, 2022. Johnie passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Huntingburg, Indiana on October 21, 1945 to the late Rufus and Victoria (Lofton) Roberson.

John retired from Guide Lamp/General Motors after 31 years. He was proudly elected to serve as a Committeeman and Zone Committeeman for Local 663 for 26 years.  John was passionate about being a Union man. He left a deep and lasting impression with his fellow Union members. Everyone that knew him and worked with him (on both sides of the aisle) respected him and appreciated his dedication to his Union brothers and sisters. Many have said he was the best Committeeman they ever knew.

John served proudly in the United States National Guard and had the utmost respect and admiration for all who served his country. He gave to several veteran’s organizations and never missed a chance to “Thank a Vet”, on the street, in the car, or even in the grocery store.

John loved life and his friends. He was an avid golfer for years and loved to boast about his two hole-in-ones. He enjoyed daily visits to Becky’s Happy Mule, Mounds State Park, Hoosier Park, and any opportunity to go “visit” a local friend or establishment. And he enjoyed lifelong friendships with Bill McCurry and Ron Mahoney.

John had the most giving spirit. He loved sharing little gifts and baked goods with so many people he cared about. Even the animals in his life, wild and domestic, were always on the receiving end of his generosity. Many will miss his almost daily visits.

Johnie loved his family. He was a sweet and devoted partner and husband to Diana (Miller, Schlabach) Roberson for over 38 years. He was beyond proud of his two children, John Jason (Rhonda) Roberson, and Andrea (Robby) Carroll. He was “Papaw” to his two grandsons, Bailey Roberson and Michael Jones, as well as to his three great grandchildren Julien Roberson, Elijah Jones, and Layla Jones.

Johnie was also survived by his sister Ladonna (Gene) Voyles, and brother Gerald (Carol) Roberson. His first wife; Priscilla (Joe) James. Stepchildren; David (Kendra) Schlabach, Jr., Bobby (Susan) Schlabach, Cyndi (Henry) Zurawski, and their many children and grandchildren. And his brother-in-law; Robert Miller. He was proceeded in death by his parents; Rufus and Victoria Roberson. Brothers; Harold and Larry Roberson. Sister; Sharon (Dick) Bedwell. And dear friend Bill McCurry.

The family will be celebrating John’s life privately. In lieu of a service the family is asking friends to celebrate Johnie’s life his way, tip back a cold Miller Light, buy a scratch-off ticket, and bet on an “8” horse.
