John W. Mccutcheon

November 1, 1920 — December 26, 2012

John W. McCutcheon, 92, Lapel, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville following a brief illness. He was born on November 1, 1920, in Guthrie, West Virginia to William and Mamie (Shafer) McCutcheon. He graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston, West Virginia and served in the U. S. Navy during World War II in the south pacific. John retired in 1983 from the former Firestone Industrial Products in Noblesville. He attended the Bethel Baptist Church in Lapel and was a member of the Lapel American Legion Post 212. He is survived by one daughter, Janet (husband, Steve) Rockhold of Lapel; five grandchildren, Jennifer (husband, David) Lloyd of Anderson, Melody, Julie, Regina, and John, III; and several great-grandchildren including Bobby and Brady Lloyd. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 53 years, Virginia (Scott) McCutcheon; and a son John, McCutcheon, Jr. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, December 29, 2012, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Pastor Dillard Cole officiating. Burial will follow in Crownland Cemetery, Noblesville where the Lapel American Legion will perform military graveside rites. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, December 28, 2012, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel.
