John Samuel Williamson, 95, of Anderson, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2019, at Bethany Pointe. He was born March 20, 1924, in Anderson, the son of the late Lowell and Myrtle Williamson and attended school in Anderson. He married Shirley K. Kustanborter in 1944 and together they raised 3 children. John enlisted in the Army in 1942 and took his basic training in Atlantic City, NJ. He then transferred to the Army Air Corps, which later became the United States Air Force. His service included duties as a flight engineer on several different aircraft while serving in WWII, the Berlin Airlift Campaign, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He retired after 24 years of service at Travis AFB, CA with the rank of Master Sergeant. After his Air Force retirement, he began working for Lockheed Aircraft as a manager for the C-5A and C-130 training simulators and retired after 22 years of service. He lived in Marietta, Ga., for 51 years, which included extended temporary assignments at Altus AFB, OK and Tehran, Iran. John and Shirley moved back to Anderson in April 2017. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Williamson; daughters, Sharon McClure, of Smyrna, Ga. and Carolyn (Gary) Tyson, of Hobart, OK; grandchildren, Stephanie (Tommy) Carroll, and Travis (Jessica) Tyson; great grandchildren, Blayne, Hunter, Dylan and Landon. John was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan Williamson; granddaughter, Holly Tyson; and nine brothers and sisters. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 31, at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
