John Newby, 79, passed away on Tuesday, June13, 2017 at Community Hospital-Anderson following an extended battle with Alzheimer’s disease. John was born in Hilham, Tennesse. He was a member of Anderson High School Class of 1957. He then served his country in the U.S. Air Force and the Air National Guard as a Crew Chief. He was the owner/operator of Implement Service in Anderson for 42 years. John was a member of Bethany Christian Church. He was also a 50 year member of the Fellowship Masonic Lodge #681, Shriners, Scottish Rite and the Madison County Shrine Club. He enjoyed his winters in Key Largo and was an avid deep sea fisherman. He also restored antique cars. He is survived by his son, Kevin (Rhonda) Newby of Anderson; grandchildren, Ashley (Jason Patterson) Dawson, Zachary (Kayla) Newby of Lapel and Hannah (Joe) Bodenhorn of Lapel; and great-grandchildren, Braden, Layla, Cooper, Noah, Laken, Parker, Lilly and Josie. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Ava “Momma” Ayers and his mother, Sylvia Ayers. A Masonic service conducted by Fellowship Masonic Lodge #681 will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory. Funeral service will immediately follow with Pastor Bob Bell officiating. Military honors will conclude the services at the funeral home. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Shriner’s Hospitals.
