John Ivan Bundy, 76, of Anderson passed away on May 26, 2024 surrounded by his family. John was born on August 17, 1947 in Muncie to the late John A. and Mary Louis (Fields) Bundy. He attended and graduated from Mississinewa High School in 1965. After high school, he attended Ball State University where he received not only his Bachelor’s degree, but also his Master’s degree in art education. John was an art teacher for Anderson Community School Corporation for nearly 40 years, retiring in 2010. He found his spiritual home at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was dedicated to the faith. He was a member of the Indianapolis Flycasters, (FFA), Federated Fly Fisherman (FFF), Trout Unlimited, (TU), Grand Rapids Flycasters (GRF), and the Anderson Federation of Teachers (AFT). John enjoyed planning the 1965 high school class reunions and he never missed a single one. John was extremely creative, had a quirky sense of humor, loved being a teacher, and enjoyed fly fishing, fly tying, camping, and canoeing. He was innovative in his teaching, having developed and initiated courses in computer graphics, cartooning and animation, Web design, and digital art and photo projects in addition to teaching traditional art classes. Over the years, he taught students across all grades, K through 12. He was also trained in CISCO.
John will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Penny (Haynes Bell); sons, Aaron (Janine) Bundy, Aarik (Sandy) Bundy, and Brock (Heather) Bundy; step-children, Kristan (Bell) Warren, Jeffery (Penny) Bell, and Phebe Bell-Tolsdorf; grandchildren, Taylor Edwards, Mac Warren, Liam Warren, Molly Bell, Sage Bell, Owen Tolsdorf, Audra Tolsdorf, Max Bundy, and Ava Bundy; great-grandchild, Robbie Bell; and sister, Mary Olive Christie. He also is survived by two sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Monday, June 10, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1115 Pearl St., Anderson, IN 46016. The funeral mass will begin at 11:00 AM at the church. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorial contributions in John’s name may be gifted to The Ned and Gloria Griner Art Gallery, https://connect.bsu.edu/18/give, The Seita Scholars Foster Youth Program, https://wmich.edu/fosteringsuccess/donate, or St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Anderson, IN. John’s services have been entrusted to Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home.
