John F Hollingsworth

John F. Hollingsworth, 87, of Anderson, passed away August 22, 2018, after a lengthy illness. He was born, February 28, 1931, in Anderson, to the late George and Julia (Brittan) Hollingsworth. He attended schools in Anderson graduating from Anderson High School, class of 1949. After graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force, serving as a flight engineer in Korea and Japan. Upon discharge from the service, he married Mary Ballmer and moved to Lancaster, Ohio, residing there for thirty years. In Lancaster, he attended Ohio State University at Columbus, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed during his years in Lancaster at Denison Engineering, Columbus Coated Fabrics, Diamond Power Electronics, North American Aviation, all in Columbus and Lancaster, Ohio. In 1994, he retired from Anchor Hocking Glass Corporation as a project engineer, after being employed there for 34 years. In 1994, at his 45th high school reunion, he married Alice (Rhodes) Alatza, a former classmate. For this reunion, the class took a cruise on the Royal Caribbean and these two classmates married on the cruise, inviting the entire class to the wedding. In 1994, John returned back to Anderson to reside. He became a member of the North Anderson Church of God, now Madison Park Church of God. He volunteered at St. John’s Hospital and was a member of Anderson Noon Lion’s Club. He is survived by his wife, Alice Hollingsworth and her son Rex Alatza, his caregivers for eleven plus years; sons, Robert (Mindy) Hollingsworth and Shawn (Lydia) Hollingsworth; siblings, Phil (Karen) Hollingsworth, Paula (George) Hazelbaker, Mary Stanton and Kathy Helton; five granddaughters; two step grandsons; several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. John was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary; a sister and two brothers. A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at East Maplewood Cemetery with Pastor Tom Malbone officiating.
