John Edward Mendel, 61, of Anderson, passed away, February 18, 2016, at Community Hospital after a sudden illness.
He was born Feb. 2, 1955 in Vincennes, to the late Virgil and Mary Lou (Yelton) Mendel.
John was a business developer for Active Environmental and was an active member of First United Methodist Church Anderson.
John loved spending time with his family and attending each of his children’s baseball, rowing, and running events. His greatest joy was watching them do what they loved and seeing them grow into the people they have become. He was named Sagamore of the Wabash by Governor Robert D. Orr.
In addition to his wife of 29 years, Mary Mendel, he is survived by his children, John Cameron Mendel, Grace Mendel, and Lucas Mendel, all of Anderson; sister, Shirley Ann Warner, of Leominster, Mass; niece, Elizabeth Warner; nephew, Chad (Emily) Warner; great niece, Vivian Warner, sister-in-law, Merry (Ben) Melton of Shirley; and their children, Shelby (Jared) Purdom, Molly and Heidi Melton.
John was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Jim Warner.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory.
Funeral service will be 11a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church Anderson, with Pastor Jeff Taylor and Rev. Dr. Bob Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
