Joanne Luise Cox

August 13, 1949 — December 17, 2020

Joanne Luise Cox, 71, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Community Hospital of Anderson. She was born August 13, 1949, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; grew up in Chesterfield, Indiana and lived her adult years in Anderson. Joanne spent her entire life serving and caring for others. She graduated from Anderson University with a degree in nursing and worked as a registered nurse at Community Hospital of Anderson. After dedicating 26 years to the profession she was called to serve, Joanne retired from the same hospital in 2011. She continued to use her nursing skills and servant heart in her retirement years to care for her family, friends, and strangers in need. In her spare time, Joanne enjoyed crafting and crocheting, often donating her gifts to local charities including area hospice agencies. Joanne was a nurturer of plants, birds and animals. She loved cats and dogs so much that she adopted several from the Humane Society throughout the years. Most of all, Joanne adored her family, and cherished the time with her grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as, “Josie.” Joanne looked forward to following her grandchildren’s sporting activities, family dinners, and special time with close friends. She will forever be remembered for her sense of humor, loving spirit, and loyal friendship. Joanne was a devoted wife and is survived by her husband of nearly 53 years, Leon E. Cox; children, Steve (wife, Deana) Cox of Yorktown and Angela (husband, Thomas) Bratton of Westfield; sister, Joyce Bernard of Anderson; five grandchildren, Lauren (husband, Patrick) Hamilton, Jacob Bratton, Kendall Bratton, Justin Cox, and Reagan Cox; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred & Emma (Koch) Krueger; and beloved in-laws, Dallen and Iona “Margie” Cox. The family would like to extend its sincere gratitude to Joanne’s hematologist/oncologist of several years, Dr. Anne Greist, of Indianapolis for her excellent medical care, wisdom and guidance. A special thank you to the ICU staff at Community Hospital of Anderson for their tireless efforts in caring for Joanne during this most difficult time. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, with Pastor Ned Clark officiating. Burial will be at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery. Due to the state restrictions regarding COVID-19, modified visitation will be from 11 am until the time of services at the funeral home.
