Joan Kay Maddy (Redmond) passed in her sleep on Friday, September 27, 2019. She was born in Elwood, Indiana, on October 4, 1937, graduated from Markleville High School in 1955. She married Forest Lee Maddy on August 14, 1955. She was an active member of every community in which she lived. During the early years of her marriage, the family lived in Greensburg, Indiana where she was involved with the March of Dimes, community theater, and First Christian Church, where she sang in the choir and lead the youth choir. After moving to Pittsboro, Indiana in 1973, she continued her service with Pittsboro Christian Church, leading the youth choir and teaching youth classes. As her children became active in various organizations at school, she and Forest became regular supporters in the stands of sporting events and in the audiences of music and drama productions. Joan also was active in the parent Music Boosters, sharing her skills in fundraising and organizing. The Maddy house was open to all - friends of her children would come for sledding in the winter followed by homemade chili and hot chocolate, bonfires and weenie roasts in the fall, and get-togethers after spring and summer sports. After Marks injury in 1982, her attention turned to helping oversee his care and helping him move forward. During these years, she also became involved in civic organizations on South Padre Island, where the family had established a clothing business. She was an avid reader, cook, and baker. She would tell you that first books she read on her own were cookbooks. If you ever ate something she made, you know how tasty it was!
