Joan Carlena Durbin

Joan Carlena Durbin, 74, Fishersburg, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at her home following an extended illness. She was born on July 9, 1939, in Ashville, North Carolina to Lawrence and Lavenia (Long) Lyda. Joan ran a beauty shop from her home for nearly 40 years. She is survived by two children, Debbie Birge of Fishersburg and Glenn (wife, Cheryl) Birge of Noblesville; four grandchildren, Brad (wife, Lori) and Scott (wife, Ashley) McDole, Zachery and Carl Birge; seven great-grandchildren, Michael, Cody, Elijah, Christian, Kiera, Audrey, and Owen; one brother, Charles Tippett; her best friend, Tammy Birge and son Nate Gettins of Noblesville; and two nieces, Kim and Kelly Martin. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Murray Durbin; one great-grandson, Everett McDole; and three sisters, Martha, Sandy, and Rhonda. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 1, 2014, at Crownland Cemetery in Noblesville with Pastor Stephen Passmore officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Saturday, February 1, 2014, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Madison County Humane Society, 2219 Crystal Street, Anderson, Indiana 46012.
