Jessie L. Dickerson

Jessie L. Dickerson, 97, former Lapel resident, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at Summit Villa in Holts Summit, MO. She was born on February 6, 1916, in Orestes, Indiana to William and Hazel (Mills) Meeker. She graduated from Lapel High School in 1934. Jessie was married October 16, 1942, in Lapel to Neal F. Dickerson who preceded her in death on January 30, 1985. Jessie worked for Delco Remy for eight years before she became a homemaker. She also had worked as a clerk in the former Lapel Drug Store for 17 years. She was a resident of Lapel for 91 years and was very involved in a variety of community activities and organizations. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for 92 years and served on the church advisory board as well as other committees. She was a children's Sunday school teacher and longtime member of the United Methodist Women. She belonged to the Nameless Bridge Club for 73 years; the Lady Lions Club; the Home Economics Club; and the Women's Society of Christian Service. Jessie was a troop leader for the local Cub and Brownie Scouts. Jessie was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend whose life goal was serving others without notice. She loved to laugh and live life to its fullest. She had many interests including reading, keeping up with local and national politics, needle work, bridge, cooking and traveling. She is survived by one daughter, Linda (husband, Jim) Ennis of Jefferson City, MO; two grandchildren, Ashley (husband, Chad) Greeno of Shawnee, KS, Andrew (wife, Sara) Ennis of Liberty, MO; and four great-grandchildren, Riley, Brady, and Chase Greeno and Elizabeth Ennis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Neal; a son, Kenneth N. Dickerson; three sisters, Martha Keesling, Alma Neese and Mary Payne; and two special nieces, Mary E. and Sandra Neese. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, August 17, 2013, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. Justin Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm Saturday, August 17, 2013, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 606, Lapel, Indiana 46051-0606.
