Dr. Jerry Eugene Garrett

Dr. Jerry Eugene (Saltsman) Garrett, of Fort Wayne, IN, passed away suddenly due to the complications of multiple medical conditions, on April 7, 2021. Dr. Garrett, originally from Greenfield, IN, was born to the late David and Patricia Saltsman on April 28, 1954. Jerry was a graduate of Greenfield Central High School Class of 1972, and he obtained his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate in Elementary Education/Education Administration from Ball State University and finished in 1984. Jerry was a US Army Veteran, serving several years as an Active duty officer, then later as a Reserve officer. After graduating from Ball State, Dr. Garrett worked as a teacher of elementary school students for a few years, then a school principal, then later a college professor. Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Becky, and their four children: Robert (Becky) Garrett of Corydon, IN; Thomas (Kristen) Garrett of Rutherfordton, NC; Jonathan (Kelly) Garrett of Lafayette, IN; and Suzanne (Ross) Campbell of New Haven, IN. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Dr. Garrett is preceded in death by his parents, David and Patricia Saltsman; his in-laws, Raymond and Frieda Hubert; and most recently his identical twin brother, Terry Garrett. A Celebration of Life will be held at Condo & St Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Wilkinson, IN on Friday April 23, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. A private funeral service and burial will take place at a later date.
