Janice Kay Boyer Chamberlin, born on July 3, 1942, and a lifelong resident of Madison County, Indiana, passed away January 1, 2023. Jan spent her early childhood at her family home in Anderson, which was hand- built by her father, surrounded by gardens tended by her mother, and a variety of animals. Her love of all animals lasted her entire life. She attended Edgewood Elementary School and graduated from Madison Heights High School in 1960. Janice considered graduating Salutatorian of her high school class one of her greatest victories.

After high school, Jan worked for the Social Security Administration briefly before taking an administrative position at Fort Benjamin Harrison, where she met and soon married her first husband, Byron, who was stationed there as a military police officer.

Settling into newlywed life, Jan took a job closer to home, at Guide Lamp. Recognized by supervisors for her quick mind and work ethic, she was sent to General Motors Institute to obtain engineering training to allow her to serve as a special tester in the Engineering test lab. She was featured in GM today in 1976 as being a trailblazer for “women in unusual jobs.”

Jan spent over thirty-five years living on a farm in Moonsville, where she raised chickens, rode horses, and kept dogs, cats, goats, and miniature donkeys as pets.

Jan attended Trinity Episcopal Church and later St. Anne’s Anglican Church, serving on the Altar Guild and as a reader.
