Janet Rose (Renschler) Surber, 74, passed away unexpectedly on October 13th, 2022. She is survived by her son, Charles Surber, wife Amanda; her daughter, Yvette Karaffa, husband Mike, grandchildren, Millie & Lucian; her brothers Alvin Renschler, wife Mary of Anderson, and Wayne Renschler of Huntingburg; several nieces and nephews, as well as, several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Janet was a St. Mary’s Alumni and a graduate of the Anderson High School class of 1966. Janet worked as a bookkeeper and meat cutter before taking a job at Delco-Remy around 1977. She left Delco in 1978, and she and Kenny founded The Anderson Stove Shop in October of 1980. She led the company through a couple of moves and name changes until retiring from Surber’s Windows and Doors in 2018.
Throughout her life, Janet was involved in many organizations. She was a softball coach and league president for Lapel Softball Association; she was a member of the Anderson Chamber of Commerce, the Sertoma Club where she coordinated the Mayor’s Cup Grand Prix for several years. She was also involved with the Red Hat Society, FAB (Females Active in Business), and she served on the board of the Anderson YWCA and and was an active member of the YMCA. She was a Master Gardener and traveler extraordinaire. Janet loved fiercely and never met a stranger; she was a blessing to all who knew her. She was always helping people while asking for nothing in return.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cletus and Dorothie (Crawford) Renschler and her husband, Kenneth Surber.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 21st from 4:00 to 7:00 pm with funeral services Saturday October 22nd at 10:00 am at Brown, Butz- Diedring Funeral Service and Crematory, 515 E. 53rd St, Anderson 46013. Burial will be at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
