James R. Vanasdal

James R. "Jim" Vanasdal, 82, Anderson, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2017, at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital following a brief illness.He was born on July 26, 1935, in Indianapolis to George Walden and Janey Luella (Walker) Vanasdal.Jim was graduated from Anderson High School and had attended Purdue University. He was a U. S. Army veteran.He retired from the former Inland Fisher Guide division of General Motors in Anderson after over 30 years of employment.Jim was a member of the Lapel American Legion Post 212 and the U. A. W. Local 663 and he enjoyed meeting his friends at Starbucks and Cracker Barrel.He is survived by two sons, Jeff (wife, Michelle) Vanasdal of North Port, FL and Jim Vanasdal of Anderson; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey, Kiley, C. J., Meghan, Eddie, Derrick, and Seth; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Donna (husband, Don) Wallace of Anderson.James was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of almost 50 years, Judy; and a daughter, Jayna.A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 Main North Street, Lapel, Indiana with Pastor Bob Moorman officiating. Entombment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis.Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 pm, Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 Main North Street, Lapel.
