James R. Smart, Sr.

James R. Smart Sr., 82 of Lapel, IN passed away of natural causes Monday June 4, 2018. He was born on November 26, 1935 in Mt. Vernon, IL to Sidney and Bernice Smart. James was an employee of Rieth-Riley Construction from 1963-1979. He retired from E&B Paving as Plant Superintendent after 27 years of service in 2006. He is survived by his Wife Sharon A. Smart; his sister Elinor Carter; 6 children; James R. (Ivy) Smart and their two children Josh Smart and Amber Eugene; Tim (Sheila) Smart and children Brandon and Kurtis; Kimber K. Brown (Paul) and their children Nathan, Eric and Michelle; Glen R. (Tina) Smart and their children J.R. & Alissa, and Christopher Ricci; Tony W. (Paula) Smart and children Kristal, Tiffany Barker, Destany and Corey; Chad (Janelle) Smart and child Emily; and several great grandchildren.James was preceded in death by brothers Don R., Richard F., Charles "Wendell", and Edmond R. Smart. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Friday, June 8, 2018, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, with Rev. Neil Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery.Visitation will be from 4 PM to 7 PM Thursday, June 7, 2018, at the funeral home.
