James R. Jake Johnson, 69, Lapel, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2010, at his home following an extended illness.
He was born on April 9, 1941, in Ypsilanti, Michigan to Russell and Anna (Lawson) Johnson and moved to Indiana as a young child.
Jim attended Lapel High School and retired in 1993 from the former Allison Gas Turbine after 31 years of employment.
As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, camping, golfing, and gardening. Jim was known for his sense of humor and love of children and family
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Sylvia D. Johnson; his mother, Anna Marie Johnson of Lapel; one sister, Bonnie Frist of Anderson; three children, James (wife, Carolyn) Johnson of Plano, TX, James (wife, Kim) Nixon of Noblesville, and Richard Chance of Lapel; four grandchildren, Brandon Johnson, Haley Nixon, Zach Nixon, and Annalicia Morelock; one niece, Kimberly (husband, Mike) Alexander of Carmel; one nephew, Robert D. Frist of Columbus; and eight great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; brother, Larry Johnson; daughter, Jana Morelock.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Pastors Bill Thompson and Jerry Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, June 11, 2010, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel.
