James Loren Holycross

August 18, 1926 — January 3, 2009

James Loren Holycross, 82, Lapel, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2009, at Rawlins House in Pendleton following a six month illness.
He was born on August 18, 1926, in Fountain County, Indiana to Nile and Mary (Cain) Holycross.
He proudly served in the U. S. Navy during WWII.
Loren retired in 1981 from the Indiana State Police Department as chief communications officer after 30 years of employment.
He was a member of the Anderson First Church of the Nazarene, and the Lapel American Legion Post 212
He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann (Cunningham) Holycross of Lapel; two sons, Kenneth (wife, Brenda) Holycross of Anderson, and Wayne Holycross of Lapel; two brothers, Jerry Holycross (companion, Ann), and Darrell (wife, Linda) Holycross both of Veedersburg; three sisters, Loretta (husband, Orval) Summers, Twila Zackmire both of Veedersburg, and Sharon (husband, Joe) Barton all of Crawfordsville; two grandsons, Brian Holycross and Ryan Holycross both of Noblesville; two great-grandsons, Cameron Holycross and Brayden Holycross.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his twin sister, Lorene Holycross.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Pastor Gary Cable officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday, January 5, 2009, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to Anderson First Church of the Nazarene, 2300 Jackson Street, Anderson, Indiana 46016; A. S. P. C. A., 424 E. 92nd Street, New York, NY 10128-6804; or the Salvation Army, 1615 Meridian Street, Anderson, Indiana 46016.
The family would like to thank the nurses and their help at Rawlins House for his excellent care.
