James Leroy Davis

James Leroy Davis, 75, of Anderson, passed away December 6, 2014 at Bethany Pointe Health Campus, following an extended illness.

He was born September 13, 1939, the son of the late Mary (Lawson) and William Earl Davis. He lived in Anderson his entire life.

He was a devout Christian who lived the idea of Christian charity – always helping those in need. James was the model of a hard-working gentleman, displaying his humble dedication in various Delco-Remy plants throughout Anderson until retiring in 1994.

James found great joy in living, even the smallest details of the day would fill his heart. You could easily see this through his love of puzzles, reading, and documenting life through pictures. He loved the outdoors – playing shuffleboard, fishing and always feeding and watching the animals in his own backyard. Above all, though, he loved his family. He saw life’s greatest, toughest, and most endearing moments through their eyes, always offering a gentle hand to hold along the way.

James leaves behind his children, Jim (Lori) Davis and Tonya (Bill) Ruggles, all of Anderson; grandchildren, Dustin Mullins, Arin (Jacob) Anderson, James Davis, Brandon Stow, Joshua Davis, Cory Davis, Skylar Young, Dominick Thompson, Heather Williams, Tanner Howells and Tenille Howells-Davis; great-grandchildren, Adrienne Anderson and Seger Mullins; sister, Donna Clinard; and brothers, John Davis and Frank Davis.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two of his children, Mark Davis and Veronica Wilkinson; and sisters, Betty Steffler and Linda Frye.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday, at the Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, 515 East 53rd St, Anderson, with Rev. John Hackney officiating. Burial will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
