James L. Troutman

James L. "Jim" Troutman, 87, Lapel, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at Saint Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital following a brief illness. He was born on February 20, 1928, in Lapel, Indiana to Bruno and Hazel (Gwinn) Troutman. He graduated from Lapel High School in 1946 and attended Anderson College on a basketball scholarship. Jim retired in 1983 from the former Delco Remy division of General Motors in Anderson after over 36 years of employment. He was a 75-year member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapel; a member of the Lapel Optimist Club; and served as Stony Creek Township Trustee. Jim was an avid golfer and had shot 5 hole-in-ones. He was a long-time Bulldog fan and enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in sports. He is survived by three children, Deborah Sharpe of Lapel, Terri (husband, Jim) Sexton of Bradenton, FL, and Doug (wife, Melissa) Troutman of Anderson; ten grandchildren, Tamara (husband, Darrell) Richardson of Lapel, LeeAnn (husband, Scott) Heinlein of Mont Vernon, NH, Brian Sharpe of Lapel, Andrea Sharpe of Lapel, Stacy (husband, Sterling) Boles of Lapel, Stephanie (husband, Bob) Schuyler of Lapel, Bailey Troutman of Anderson, Brooke Troutman of Anderson, Brynna Troutman of Anderson and Brock Troutman of Anderson; eleven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Brooks, Conner, Mitchell, Jon Ross, Luke, Makia, Marley, Alex, Mackenzie, and Stone; two great-great grandchildren, Carson and Emma Ann; two sisters, Marietta Castor of Anderson and Betty (husband, Jack) Ackerman of Lapel; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of nearly 60 years, Joan (Anderson) Troutman; and friend, Patty Corn. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Pastor Doug Barton officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday, May 4, 2015, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel. The family would like to thank the staff of Countryside Manor for their loving care of Jim.
