James L. Hale, 91, of Ft. Wayne, passed away September 22, 2014, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness.
He was born October 19, 1922 in Anderson the son of the late James and Mamie (Farrell) Hale. He was a graduate of Anderson High School in 1941. He then graduated from the University of Arizona, attended classes at Indiana Univeristy and Butler University before graduating from the National Graduate Trust School at Northwestern University.
James served in the U.S. Army Air Corp for 31 months, from 1942-1945, in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He was stationed in Australia, New Guinea, the Dutch East Indies, the Philippines and the Ryu Kus Islands.
On June 22 1946, James married Patricia Ann Burke and the couple celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1996. Patricia Ann preceded James in death on May 31, 2000.
James is survived by his children, Mary Ellen (Bill Davis) Hale, of Ft. Wayne, Edward L. (Chris) Hale, of Carmel, Thomas J. (Marcia) Hale, of Deleware, OH and Patrick F. (Tresa) Hale, of Ft. Wayne; his grandchildren, Matthew J. Hale, Jonathan P. Hale, Paul J. Hale and Sarah E. Hale; one niece and several nephews.
In addition to Patricia, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Krug and his brother, Harry F. Hale.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Anderson with Monsignor Robert Sell officiating. Interment will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory.
